Spin the Truth (n):
1. a game invented in July 2007 by a pack of smart women on a retreat outside Hartford, Connecticut, USA, combining the spontaneity and adolescence of Spin the Bottle with the earnest searching of Truth or Dare.
2. A blog launched shortly after my 25th birthday, where friends and trusted associates will be as loud or as quiet as they like. Contributors might post entries probing the structural forces that impact our daily routines; about the intersections of various forms of oppression; and about our largely progressive political agendas. Or we might not. We might just feel like posting a haiku. We all need to play with words sometimes after a long day of academic writing or inbox wrangling.
Note: The first post explains why I clicked “create blog” in the first place, when there are so gosh-darn many blogs out there already. You can read it here.
Disclaimer (with thanks to Feministing, from whom we borrowed some language):
We view Spin the Truth as a platform for not only discussion among friends and allies, but for reaching (rational, not hateful) people who may not agree with every word we write. However, we require that discussion in comments should be respectful and be directed toward the ideas and argument, not the person. All comments with hate speech, personal attacks, or offensive language will be deleted. If we have to delete a total of three comments by any one commenter, that person will be banned.
The editor of the blog works with the individual bloggers to moderate comments on their own posts. If you feel the need to alert one of us to the presence of offensive comments on a thread, please send an email to juliacsmith at gmail dot com, and the author of the post will make a judgment call from there.
